The Goethe-Institut USA invited high school and college students to delve into the complexities and enduring relevance of the Enlightenment. The students were encouraged to engage with Kant’s call to “Sapere Aude” – dare to know – and critically discuss and apply Kant’s ideas to contemporary issues. The award-winning essays show an impressive creativity and philosophical depth.

As a member of the jury, I was invited to give a speech at the Award Ceremony for the Kant Essay Competition at the German Embassy Washington. The ceremony took place on November 20, 2024, in the presence of the German Ambassador to the United States, Andreas Michaelis, who presented the awards.
